Il Pinocchietto

Il Pinocchietto is a family-run business based in the province of Bergamo, producing wooden items for children following the Montessori and Pikler methods: toys, furniture and accessories designed for a child's autonomy and development from early infancy.

The website is an e-commerce showcasing the product catalog and enabling online purchases, aimed primarily at parents and educators looking for certified, handmade-in-Italy wooden toys.

Client needs

The project started from three specific requirements:

  1. Improve the website's user experience, making it more intuitive and easier to navigate.
  2. Fix numerous performance and visual issues with the existing site.
  3. Keep using WordPress to manage products, without disrupting the client's existing workflow.

A hybrid of Next.js and WordPress

To meet these requirements, I used a hybrid architecture for the first time: Next.js for the frontend and performance, and WordPress as a headless backend for product catalog management. This way, the client keeps managing products and orders from the WordPress interface they're used to, while end users browse a fast, modern site, written entirely in Vanilla CSS.

Technologies

  • Next.js
  • WordPress (headless CMS)
  • Vanilla CSS

The budget for this website falls between 1000 and 2000 euros per year. Part of this budget goes toward server management, which is undoubtedly more expensive than classic hosting but necessary to support the hybrid architecture.

The timeline for this project was around 3 weeks, with continuous updates and improvements throughout the year.
