If you're considering buying a new website, you've probably already come across the term "custom-built." Understanding what it means helps you choose better, because the difference shows up in the final result, not in the words used to describe it.
A site can be built starting from a theme, or made with a visual builder like WordPress. These are ways to get a site online quickly, but these tools carry serious problems with them that damage your brand's reputation on Google:

Why (almost) never WordPress
Those who know me know this: I prefer not to use WordPress for showcase sites. It's slow, it drags along dozens of plugins that get in each other's way, and every time you need to unlock a feature that should be free, a subscription shows up.
I'll only use WordPress if and when the project genuinely requires it, and only to handle the administrative side of the site. Clients will always see a site built from scratch, with no plugins and no purchased themes. This keeps the site fast, secure, and easy to update.
How pricing works
The quote arrives before I write a single line of code, and it covers development, hosting, and support for the first year. From the second year onward, you pay a renewal fee to keep the site online and up to date.
The renewal fee stays identical to the first year's, and it won't increase without notice. If in the future a change in infrastructure costs makes a price adjustment necessary, you'll be notified by email at least three months before the renewal date, so you'll have plenty of time to decide how to proceed calmly.

First conversation

Interface design
Over the following 72 hours, I'll work on interface prototypes and send them by email. Every part of the prototype is open to discussion: if something doesn't convince you, you can request changes before development starts.
Site development
Once the prototypes are approved, I'll start building the site using the best technology for your goals. You'll receive a private link where you can track the site's development progress.
Launch and management
Once development is complete, I'll put the site live and connect all the necessary services.
How much does a custom-built website cost?
As a rough guide, a three-page showcase site in one language starts at around €650/year, including development, hosting, professional email, and support in the price. The renewal fee stays the same in following years, and any adjustment will be communicated three months ahead of the renewal date. If you want to get an idea on your own, the Let's Work Together page has a configurator that calculates the price as you move the sliders. More complex features and requirements may result in a higher quote, but you'll be informed before development begins.
How long does it take to build a website?
Three to five weeks for a typical showcase site, counted from when you confirm the quote. In most cases, text and photos are the last elements to be finalized and may still change even after the site goes live. Depending on the number of pages and the complexity of the project, development time can increase.
Is the site mine, or does it stay tied to you?
To speed things up and minimize administrative and technical issues, I'll register all the necessary services myself. If you ever prefer to stop the service, you can request the domain transfer whenever you want.
Can I update the content myself?
It depends. If you add the management panel, you'll get a private area where you can edit text, images, and articles without touching code. If you expect to change something once a year, the panel is an avoidable expense: it's better to skip it and use the included hour of edits instead.
Does the renewal price change in following years?
It stays identical to the first year's, except in exceptional cases tied to infrastructure costs and/or the addition of features not originally planned. In that case, you'll receive notice three months ahead of the renewal date, so you'll have plenty of time to decide how to proceed.
Why don't you use WordPress to build websites?
Because for a showcase site it's more of a burden than an advantage: dozens of plugins to update, that clash with each other and occasionally open up a security hole. When a project needs a mature CMS, I use one, but I keep it behind the scenes.
Is VAT included in the price?
No, I operate under a flat-rate tax scheme, so I don't charge VAT on invoices.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes, you can pay for the site in up to 4 interest-free installments. The first installment is due before work begins, the following ones on a monthly basis. If payments aren't kept up, the site will be suspended until overdue installments are settled.
Can I deduct the cost of the site from my taxes?
Yes, if you're a freelancer or a business you can deduct the cost of the site from your taxes as a business expense. I recommend consulting your accountant to understand how to proceed correctly.
